Implementation of Policing Mechanisms for High Speed Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes implementations of the well-known traffic policing mechanisms for high speed networks. The implementations are based on a high performance development environment and are described through commented block diagrams. The considered mechanisms are Leaky Bucket with variants, Jumping Window, Triggered Jumping Window, Continuous Sliding Window, Discretized Sliding Window and Time Slotted Moving Window. These mechanisms were implemented in UNIX and DOS environments. A comparison of the results focusing on the implementation complexity is presented considering required memory, number of timers and its precision, mean processing time of the communication system and mean mechanism processing time. The results confirm the low implementation complexity of Leaky Bucket, Jumping Window and Time Slotted Moving Window mechanisms.

Time Slotted Moving Window - a New Policing Mechanism for High Speed Networks
This paper describes a window-based policing mechanism, called Time Slotted Moving Window. Its key idea consists in aggregating the arrival events computation in order to minimize the processing and buffering requirements. Its main characteristics are simplicity, low implementation complexity, memory saving and use of a single low precision timer. Its performance behavior ranges from jumping wi...

متن کاملScheduling and QOs for leak rate in policing mechanisms over telecommunications network
High-performance frame communication networks including VDSL have been conceived to carry traffic sources and support a continuum of transport rates ranging from low bit-rate to high bit-rate traffic. As a number of telecommunications traffic (bursty traffic) fluctuates on a certain network it results in congestion. The traditional policing mechanisms are finite-sized buffers with queue managem...
متن کاملOn How to Provision Virtual Circuits for Network-Redirected Large-Sized, High-Rate Flows
To reduce the impact of large-sized, high-rate (α) transfers on real-time flows, a Hybrid Network Traffic Engineering System (HNTES) was proposed in earlier work. HNTES is an intra-domain solution that enables the automatic identification of α flows at a provider network’s ingress routers, and redirects these flows to traffic-engineered QoS-controlled virtual circuits. The purpose of this work ...

A systolic serial multiplier for unsigned numbers is presented which operates without zero words inserted between successive data words, outputs the full product and has only one clock cycle latency.
The multiplier is based on a modified serial/parallel scheme with two adjacent multiplier cells. Systolic concept is a well-known means of intensive computational task through replication of fu...
